Source & Authentication

Narrated by Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "When a man enters his house and mentions Allah the Exalted at the time of his entry and at the time of his food, Satan says: 'You have no place to spend the night and no dinner.' When he enters and does not mention Allah the Exalted at the time of his entry, Satan says: 'You have found a place to spend the night.' And when he does not mention Allah the Exalted at the time of his food, Satan says: 'You have found a place to spend the night and dinner.'" (Sunan Abi Dawud 3764, classified as Hasan by the publisher). While this specific narration focuses on mentioning Allah's name at entry and mealtime, the principle of invoking Allah's name ('Bismillah') and acknowledging His dominion ('On Allah, our Lord, we place our trust') is fundamental to seeking His protection and blessings in all our actions. The dua provided is a comprehensive supplication for entering the home, encompassing these principles.
