بِسْمِ اللهِ وَلَجْنَا، وَبِسْمِ اللهِ خَرَجْنَا، وَعَلَى رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا
In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we leave, and in Allah our Lord we place our trust.
Bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajna, wa 'ala Rabbina tawakkalna
When to Read
This dua should be recited as you physically enter your home, whether it's your primary residence, a relative's house, or any place you are entering with the intention of residing or spending time. It's a beautiful way to begin your time within the home, acknowledging Allah's presence and protection.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and presence of mind as you cross the threshold of your home. Ideally, you would say 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah) before even reciting the full dua, as this is the general Sunnah for all actions. It's a simple yet profound supplication that sets a positive tone for your entry.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting this dua imbues your home with Allah's blessings. When you enter and leave mentioning Allah's name, you are essentially inviting His protection and barakah (abundance) into your dwelling. This practice also serves as a constant reminder of our reliance on Allah (Tawakkul). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that when a person supplicates in this manner, Shaytan (Satan) is repelled and cannot enter the home or harm the inhabitants. It transforms your home from a mere physical space into a sanctuary of peace, productivity, and righteous deeds, keeping it free from evil influences and fostering an atmosphere conducive to worship and good conduct.

Narrated by Jabir bin 'Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: "When a man mentions the name of Allah upon entering his house and upon eating, Satan says: 'You have no place to spend the night and no food.' When he enters without mentioning the name of Allah, Satan says: 'You have found a place to spend the night,' and when he does not mention the name of Allah upon eating, Satan says: 'You have found a place to spend the night and food.'" (Sahih Muslim 2018, with variations in wording found in Sunan Abi Dawud 3764 and Sunan Ibn Majah 3897, where the specific dua is mentioned). Another narration by Abu Malik al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) states: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "If one of you enters his house and says: 'O Allah, I ask You for the best upon entering and the best upon leaving. In the name of Allah, we enter and in the name of Allah, we leave, and in Allah, our Lord, we trust,' then Satan says: 'You will not find rest nor sustenance in this house.'" (Sunan Abi Dawud 3764, Hasan).
