Dua for Entering Home: Invoking Allah's Blessings and Protection

Entering Home
Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5096

O Allah, I ask of You the best of entrance and the best of exit. In Allah's name we enter, and in Allah's name we exit, and in Allah, our Lord, we place our trust.

Allahumma inni as'aluka khayral mawlaji wa khayral makhraji, bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajna, wa 'alAllahi Rabbina tawakkalna.

When to Read

This dua should be recited every time you enter your home. It’s a beautiful practice to invoke Allah's presence and blessings as you step across the threshold, setting a tone of remembrance and reliance on Him for your family and dwelling.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and mindfulness. It's recommended to say 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah) before reciting the full dua. If you are entering with your family, the dua can be recited collectively or by the head of the household on behalf of everyone. Ensure you are facing the home or the door as you recite.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua invokes Allah's protection and blessings upon your home and its inhabitants. It signifies your reliance on Him for provision, safety, and well-being. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that when a person recites this dua upon entering his home, Satan says: 'You have no way (to harm him or his family/property) this day.' (Sahih Muslim 2018). This dua also cultivates a constant state of remembrance (dhikr) and gratitude, making the home a place where Allah is constantly acknowledged.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Jabir: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'When a man mentions Allah's name upon entering his house and upon eating, Satan says: "You have no place to spend the night and no food." When he enters without mentioning Allah's name, Satan says: "You have found a place to spend the night." When he does not mention Allah's name upon eating, Satan says: "You have found a place to spend the night and food."' (Sahih Muslim 2018). While this hadith mentions eating, the principle of invoking Allah's name upon entering the home is emphasized. The specific dua for entering and exiting the home is found in Sunan Abi Dawud 5096, which is a comprehensive supplication for both actions.
