Entering Home
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 3764

بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ وَلَجْنَا، وَبِاسْمِ اللَّهِ خَرَجْنَا، وَعَلَى اللَّهِ رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا.

In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we exit, and in Allah, our Lord, we place our trust.

Bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajna, wa 'alallahi Rabbina tawakkalna.

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recited upon entering one's home. It's a gentle reminder that every action, from entering to exiting, is done with Allah's name and under His care. It sets a tone of humility and reliance on our Creator from the very threshold.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity as you step into your home. It's a moment to pause, acknowledge Allah's blessings in providing you with a dwelling, and entrust your household affairs to Him. You can say it softly to yourself or, if with family, say it aloud so others can learn and join in.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication cultivates humility by acknowledging that our entry and exit are by Allah's decree and that our ultimate reliance is on Him. It imbues the home with Allah's remembrance, transforming it from a mere physical space into a sanctuary of faith and trust. By invoking Allah's name, we seek His protection and blessing for our home and all within it, fostering an atmosphere where gratitude and tawakkul (reliance on Allah) flourish.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'When a man leaves his house and says: 'Bismillahi tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah' (In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah), it is said to him: 'You are guided, you are taken care of, and you are defended.' So the devil keeps away from him. And another devil says to him: 'How can you get to a man whom he has been guided and taken care of and defended?' (Sunan Abi Dawud 5095). The dua for entering home, though slightly different, carries a similar spirit of invoking Allah's name and reliance upon Him for protection and blessing.
