Narrated by Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "When a man mentions the name of Allah and says when he begins his journey: 'In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we leave, and in Allah our Lord we put our trust,' then Satan says: 'He has been protected from me for the rest of the day.'" (Sunan Abi Dawud 3764, Sunan Ibn Majah 3895. The hadith is considered Hasan by scholars). While the primary context here is for journeys, the principle of invoking Allah's name upon entering any place, including one's home, is strongly supported by other narrations. For instance, when entering one's home, the Prophet ﷺ instructed to say: "O Allah, I ask You for the goodness of entering and the goodness of leaving, in the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we leave, and in Allah our Lord we put our trust." (Sunan Abi Dawud 5095 - also Hasan). The essence is the same: seeking Allah's protection and blessing in the places we inhabit.
