Dua for a Home Filled with Light and Guidance Upon Entering

Entering Home
Sahih HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3877

In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we leave, and in Allah our Lord we trust. O Allah, I ask of You the best of entry and the best of exit. Glory be to You, O Allah! I ask of You a good provision and that You protect me from the punishment of the Fire. My Lord, cause me to enter a path of truth and cause me to exit a path of truth and grant me from Yourself a helping authority.

Bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajna, wa 'ala Rabbina tawakkalna. Allahumma inni as'aluka khayr al-madkhali wa khayr al-makhraji. Subhanak, Allahumma inni as'aluka rizqan tayyiban, wa as'aluka an tujirani min 'adhabin-nar. Rabb adkhilni mudkhala sidqin wa akhrijni mukhraja sidqin, waj'al li min ladunka sultanan naseera.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Anas ibn Malik: The Prophet ﷺ said: 'When a man says Bismillah when he enters his house and when he eats, Satan says: 'You have no place to pass the night and you have no food.' When he enters his house without saying Bismillah, Satan says: 'You have found a place to pass the night.' And when he does not say Bismillah when he eats, Satan says: 'You have found the food and the place to pass the night.' (Sunan Ibn Majah 3877). While this specific dua isn't in the narration above, the principle of invoking Allah's name upon entering the home is established. The longer dua provided is a comprehensive supplication for home entry taught by the scholars based on various prophetic teachings.
