اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male and female devils (or evil spirits).
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.
When to Read
This dua is recited just before entering the bathroom or toilet area. It's a practice taught to us by our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to seek protection from any evil or harm that might be present in such places.
How to Read
Recite this dua sincerely before stepping into the bathroom. It is traditionally recited before entering and should be said with conviction, seeking Allah's divine protection.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication is a profound act of seeking Allah's protection. Bathrooms, by their nature, are places where one might be vulnerable or exposed. The Prophet ﷺ, in his infinite mercy and wisdom, taught us this dua to safeguard ourselves from the unseen, specifically mentioning refuge from the 'khubuth' (male devils/evil) and 'khaba'ith' (female devils/evil). This act not only protects us physically but also spiritually, reminding us that Allah's presence and protection are sought in all aspects of our lives, even in seemingly mundane or private moments.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Verily, this is a place where the devils frequent. So when one of you goes [into the toilet], he should say: Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.' (Sahih Muslim 375, narrated by Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him)). The version in Sahih al-Bukhari (6306) reads: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.'
