اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male devils and female devils.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith
When to Read
This dua is recited just before entering the bathroom or toilet. It is a profound act of seeking Allah's protection as we enter a place that, in pre-Islamic times, was associated with impurities and the dwelling of jinn. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua to sanctify this mundane act and seek divine safeguarding.
How to Read
Recite this dua sincerely with your heart before stepping into the bathroom. It is best to say it when you are on the threshold, just before you enter. This dua is whispered, as other supplications are generally recommended to be made with a soft voice unless otherwise specified.
Virtues & Benefits
By reciting this dua, we are invoking Allah's protection from all forms of evil and impurity associated with this place, both physical and spiritual. The 'khubuth' and 'khaba'ith' refer to male and female devils (jinn) who are known to inhabit such places. This act shows our awareness of Allah's presence even in the most private moments and our reliance on His protection. It purifies our intention, turning even the act of relieving oneself into an act of worship through remembrance of Allah.
