Dua for Entering the Bathroom: Seeking Allah's Protection

Entering Bathroom
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6306

بِسْمِ اللهِ، اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male and female devils (or from all evil and all things impure).

Bismillahi, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.

When to Read

This dua should be recited just before entering the toilet or bathroom. It's a specific supplication taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to be said upon entering places of impurity.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity before stepping into the bathroom. It's generally recited before covering oneself, ideally as you are about to enter the actual cubicle or designated area. Some scholars mention reciting it once, while others prefer to say it with conviction.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication serves as a powerful shield, seeking Allah's protection from the evil influences that are known to frequent such places. It acknowledges the spiritual significance of even mundane actions and reminds us that Allah's protection is sought in all circumstances. By invoking Allah's name and seeking His refuge, we purify our intention and seek to ward off any harm, seen or unseen, from the jinn and shayateen who may reside there.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When any one of you wants to enter the privy, he should say: 'Bismillahi, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.' (Allah will grant protection to whatever angel is appointed to guard him).' Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari 6306.
