بِسْمِ اللهِ، اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ
In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male and female devils.
Bismillahi, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith
When to Read
This dua is recited *before* entering the bathroom (toilet/restroom). It is a practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to seek protection from evil spirits and contamination before entering such places, which are often associated with them.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity before stepping into the bathroom. It's a moment of seeking Allah's (SWT) protection, so focus your intention on that. It is traditionally taught that one enters with the left foot after reciting this and leaves with the right foot.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication is a powerful shield against harmful influences. By seeking refuge in Allah (SWT) from devils ('khubuth' refers to male devils and 'khaba'ith' to female devils), we are asking for protection not just from physical impurities, but also from spiritual harm and negative thoughts that can sometimes creep in when one is in a state of vulnerability. It's a beautiful reminder of how every aspect of our lives, even something as mundane as using the restroom, can be infused with remembrance of Allah (SWT) and a seeking of His protection.
