Dua for Entering the Bathroom: Acknowledging Allah's Blessings in Providing a Place for Relief

Entering Bathroom
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6306

بِسْمِ اللهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from evil jinn, both male and female.

Bismillah, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.

When to Read

This supplication is recited just before entering the bathroom or toilet. It's a beautiful practice that reminds us to seek Allah's protection even in places where we might feel most vulnerable or when engaging in activities that are naturally private.

How to Read

Recite this dua clearly and with sincerity before stepping into the bathroom. It's customary to step in with the left foot after reciting the dua. The intention behind it is to acknowledge that even in a place of personal relief, we are still in need of Allah's protection from unseen evils.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking refuge in Allah from the male and female devils (khubuth and khaba'ith) before entering the bathroom is a Sunnah practice taught by our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Bathrooms are often considered places where Shaytan (Satan) may be present. By reciting this dua, we are asking Allah to shield us from their temptations, whispers, and any harm they might intend. It’s a way of sanctifying even this private space and remembering Allah's constant watchfulness and care.
