أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لاَمَّةٍ

I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and poisonous thing and from every evil eye.

A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hammah, wa min kulli 'aynin lammah.

When to Read

This powerful dua is excellent for seeking Allah's protection against the evil eye, envy, and general harm. Recite it: * When you feel a sense of unease or believe you might be susceptible to the evil eye or envy. * Upon leaving your home, as a shield for your day. * Before sleep, to protect yourself through the night. * When you notice something beautiful or blessed in your life or others' that might inadvertently attract envious glances. * It is particularly beloved to recite for children, as the Prophet ﷺ himself did.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and complete reliance on Allah's power to protect. While the original narration features the Prophet ﷺ seeking refuge for his grandsons using the form 'U'idhukuma' (I seek refuge for you both), when you recite for yourself, use 'A'udhu' (I seek refuge). If you are reciting it for someone else: * For a single male child: 'U'eedhuka' (أُعِيذُكَ) * For a single female child: 'U'eedhuki' (أُعِيذُكِ) * For multiple children: 'U'eedhukum' (أُعِيذُكُمْ) Maintain presence of mind, understanding that you are invoking Allah's perfect and complete words for refuge, which are unbreakable.

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Prophet ﷺ used to seek refuge for Al-Hasan and Al-Husain, saying: 'أُعِيذُكُمَا بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لاَمَّةٍ' (U'idhukuma bikalimatillahit-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hammah, wa min kulli 'aynin lammah.) which means: 'I seek refuge for you both in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and poisonous thing and from every evil eye.' — Sahih al-Bukhari 3371
