O Ever-Living, O Self-Subsisting Lord, by Your mercy I seek help. Rectify for me all of my affairs and do not leave me to myself even for the span of an eye.

Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum bi rahmatika astagheeth, aslih li sha'ni kullahu wa la takilni ila nafsi tarfata 'ayn.

When to Read

This dua is particularly potent when you feel a heavy burden of sins and mistakes weighing on your heart. It's a plea for divine assistance when you feel incapable of managing your own shortcomings. Recite it anytime you feel overwhelmed, lost, or are struggling to break free from a cycle of sin.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, acknowledging your absolute need for Allah's mercy and help. Raise your hands as you do so, a sign of supplication. Repeat it diligently, especially when you notice yourself falling into old habits or feeling distant from Allah. Remember that Allah loves those who turn back to Him, seeking His forgiveness and guidance.

Virtues & Benefits

This beautiful dua encapsulates a comprehensive request for well-being. By invoking the attributes 'Al-Hayy' (The Ever-Living) and 'Al-Qayyum' (The Self-Subsisting), you are calling upon Allah by names that signify His eternal existence and His absolute control over all creation. Seeking His 'rahmah' (mercy) is crucial because no one enters Jannah except by Allah's mercy. Asking Allah to 'aslih li sha'ni kullahu' (rectify all my affairs) covers your spiritual, worldly, and hereafter concerns. The most critical part, 'wa la takilni ila nafsi tarfata 'ayn' (and do not leave me to myself for the span of an eye), is a profound realization of our utter dependence on Allah. Without His constant support, we are vulnerable to our own weaknesses and desires, leading us to sin and stray.

Source & Authentication

Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'O people, no one among you should say: 'O Allah, forgive me if You wish, O Allah, have mercy on me if You wish.' Rather, he should say: 'O Allah, forgive me, and have mercy on me, and give me sustenance, for indeed He does whatever He wills.' For verily, there is no compeller for Him, and He is not to be asked but He is to be asked for all good. It is obligatory to ask Him.' Then he said: 'O Hayyu, O Qayyum, by Your mercy I seek help, so rectify for me all of my affairs and do not leave me to myself even for the span of an eye.'
