O Allah, I seek refuge in You from grief and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the heavy burden of debt and the overpowering of men.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabad-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.
When to Read
This powerful supplication is ideal to recite during times of intense worry, feeling overwhelmed by life's struggles, or when facing overwhelming debt. It's a comprehensive dua that seeks Allah's protection from various forms of hardship, including those that can lead to destitution. You can make this a regular part of your morning or evening supplications, or recite it specifically when you feel the weight of your circumstances pressing down.
How to Read
This dua should be recited with sincerity and conviction, turning to Allah directly. It's best recited after obligatory prayers or at any time you feel the need to connect with Allah and seek His assistance. Imagine each phrase as a shield you are raising against the difficulties you fear. Maintain a state of purity and face the Qiblah if possible, though the most crucial aspect is the earnestness of your heart.
Virtues & Benefits
This specific dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his companion Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) when he asked for a dua to recite in all circumstances, offers comprehensive protection. It doesn't just ask for financial relief but seeks refuge from the underlying causes of distress and hardship: *grief and sorrow* (emotional burdens), *incapacity and laziness* (lack of ability and will to work), *cowardice and stinginess* (character flaws that hinder progress and generosity), and crucially, *heavy debt and the overpowering of men* (financial and social subjugation). By seeking refuge from these, we ask Allah to not only alleviate current poverty but to protect us from falling into it, granting us strength, contentment, and dignity.

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from grief and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the heavy burden of debt and the overpowering of men.' Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'I said these words and Allah removed my distress.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6369)
