السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الدِّيَارِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمِينَ، وَإِنَّا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَلاَحِقُونَ، أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ لَنَا وَلَكُمُ الْعَافِيَةَ.

Peace be upon you, O dwellers of this place, from among the believers and the Muslims. And indeed, we will join you if Allah wills. We ask Allah to grant us and you well-being.

As-salamu 'alaykum ahlad-diyari minal-mu'mineena wal-muslimeen, wa inna insha'Allahu biraaqiroon. As'alu Allaha lana wa lakumul-'aafiyah.

This dua is recited when visiting the graves of deceased Muslims, whether they are family, friends, or any other Muslim.

ʿĀʾishah (Allāh be pleased with her) reported: Whenever it was her turn (to stay with the Prophet ﷺ at night), he would go out towards the graves (of Baqiʿ) and say: 'Peace be upon you, O dwellers of the graves from among the believers and the Muslims, and may Allah have mercy on those who have gone ahead of us and those who are to come later, and indeed, we shall, Allāh willing, be reunited with you.'
