O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, and grant him well-being, and pardon him. Honor his استقبال, make his grave spacious. Wash him with water, snow, and hail. Cleanse him of sins just as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. Give him a home better than his home, a family better than his family, and a spouse better than his spouse. Admit him to Paradise and protect him from the punishment of the grave and the punishment of the Fire.

When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performed the funeral prayer for a deceased person, he would say: 'O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, and grant him well-being, and pardon him. Honor his استقبال, make his grave spacious. Wash him with water, snow, and hail. Cleanse him of sins just as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. Give him a home better than his home, a family better than his family, and a spouse better than his spouse. Admit him to Paradise and protect him from the punishment of the grave and the punishment of the Fire.' He (peace be upon him) would say this three times. He (peace be upon him) also said when the deceased was buried: 'With your name, O Allah, and on the religion of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).' [Sahih Muslim 963]
