O Allah, forgive [Name], have mercy upon him, grant him well-being, pardon him, honor his reception, make his resting place spacious, cleanse him with water, snow, and hail. Purify him from sins as a white garment is purified from dirt. Exchange his home for a better one, his family for a better one, and his spouse for a better one. Admit him into Paradise and protect him from the punishment of the grave and the punishment of the Fire.
Allahumma-ghfir li [name], war-ham-hu, wa 'aafi-hi, wa'fu 'an-hu, wa akrim nuzulahu, wa wassi' madkhalahu, waghsil-hu bil-ma'i wath-thalji wal-baradi, wa naqqi-hi minal-khataya kama yunaqqa-th-thawbul-abyadu minad-danasi, wa abdil-hu daran khayran min darrih, wa ahlan khayran min ahlih, wa zawjan khayran min zawjih, wa adkhil-hul-jannata, wa a'idh-hu min 'adhabal-qabri, wa min 'adhabin-nar.
When to Read
This supplication is particularly poignant when a Muslim passes away with outstanding Zakat obligations. It can be recited by their family, friends, or any Muslim who wishes to supplicate for the deceased. It's most beneficial when made shortly after the person's passing and can be continued throughout the period of mourning and beyond. Making a conscious effort to pay off the Zakat on behalf of the deceased is also a vital action.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a sincere intention to seek Allah's forgiveness and mercy for the deceased. It is recommended to place the name of the deceased in the designated spot. If Zakat was indeed unfulfilled, one should also endeavor to pay it off on behalf of the deceased. This dua can be recited individually or by a group.
Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua encompasses several essential requests for the deceased: forgiveness of sins, mercy, well-being, honor in the hereafter, expansion of their grave, purification from transgressions, and a better abode in Paradise. For those who have unfulfilled Zakat, this dua, coupled with fulfilling the obligation on their behalf, is a profound way to alleviate their burden in the grave and seek Allah's immense grace. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us the importance of making du'a for the deceased, stating that it is a gift from the living to the dead. (This specific benefit is understood from the general teaching about du'a for the deceased and its acceptance, not a direct quote for this specific dua's benefits).

Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When you attend the funeral, say good things, for the angels say 'Amin' to what you say.' Then (one year) a man came and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what do we say?' He said: 'Say: O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, and grant him steadfastness (in answering the questions), and say: O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, our present and our absent, our young and our old, our males and our females. O Allah, whomsoever of us You keep alive, keep him alive on Islam, and whomsoever of us You cause to die, cause him to die on the faith. O Allah, do not deprive us of his reward and do not cause us to go astray after him.' (Sahih Muslim 963)
