O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, grant him well-being and pardon him. Honor his reception, make his grave spacious. Wash him with water, snow, and hail. Cleanse him from sins just as white cloth is cleansed from dirt. Replace his home with a better home, his family with a better family, and his spouse with a better spouse. Admit him to Paradise and protect him from the punishment of the grave and the punishment of the Fire.

Narrated Awf ibn Malik al-Ashja'i: I attended the funeral of a man from among the people. As we were walking, Abu Bakr took hold of my hand and we walked together. He said: "What is this?" I said: "I have been watching the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) praying for a deceased person, and supplicating for him." He said: "Indeed! On the Day of Judgment, that will be presented before them, and on the Day of Judgment, it will be a source of comfort for them." He said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say when praying for the dead: 'O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, and grant him well-being and pardon him. Honor his reception, make his grave spacious. Wash him with water, snow, and hail. Cleanse him from sins just as white cloth is cleansed from dirt. Replace his home with a better home, his family with a better family, and his spouse with a better spouse. Admit him to Paradise and protect him from the punishment of the grave and the punishment of the Fire.'"
