When to Read
This dua is specifically for the deceased. It can be recited at any time after their passing, especially during funeral prayers, at the graveside, or as ongoing supplication for their soul.
How to Read
When reciting, replace 'fulanin' (meaning 'so-and-so') with the actual name of the deceased person. It's recommended to recite with sincerity and focus, remembering the deceased's good deeds and their constant efforts to help others. Making dua for a Muslim brother or sister is a profound act of compassion and fulfills a right they have over us.
Virtues & Benefits

It is particularly poignant for someone who was known for their selflessness and constant help to others, as their deeds are a testament to their character, and this dua seeks to honor that.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (continuous charity), beneficial knowledge which he leaves behind, or a righteous child who prays for him.' It was also narrated from Umm Salamah that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'O Allah, forgive Abu Salamah, and raise his rank among those who are guided. And be his successor among his descendants. O Allah, forgive him and us, O Lord of the worlds, and widen his grave and illuminate it for him.'
