O Allah, forgive him and have mercy upon him, grant him well-being and pardon him. Honor his reception, make his grave spacious, and wash him with water, snow, and hail. Purify him from sins just as a white garment is purified from dirt. Grant him a home better than his home, a family better than his family, and a spouse better than his spouse. Admit him to Paradise and protect him from the punishment of the grave and the punishment of the Fire.
When to Read
This is a general supplication for any deceased Muslim. It is particularly poignant to recite for someone who has passed away suddenly or tragically, such as in an accident. We make this dua whenever we hear of a Muslim's passing, or after their burial, and indeed, at any time we wish to supplicate for them.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a humble heart, directing your supplication to Allah. It is best recited while facing the Qiblah, though this is not a strict condition for supplication. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, asking Allah for His infinite mercy for the deceased. You can raise your hands slightly when making dua, as is the practice for supplication. It is also permissible to recite this for any deceased Muslim, not just the one who died in an accident.
Virtues & Benefits
Making dua for the deceased is a vital part of our Islamic duty and a profound act of mercy. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this comprehensive supplication to ask Allah for the forgiveness, mercy, and ultimate comfort of the departed soul. It reminds us of Allah's vastness in His forgiveness and His ability to transform the grave into a garden of Paradise. For the one who died in an accident, this dua is especially important as they may not have had the chance to repent for any sins or prepare for their departure. Our dua offers them a lifeline of mercy from Allah.
