Dua for a Deceased Who Died During Hajj

Deceased
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 963

O Allah, forgive him, have mercy upon him, grant him well-being, and pardon him. Honor his hospitality and make his entrance wide. Wash him with water, snow, and hail. Purify him from sins just as a white garment is purified from dirt. Replace his home with a better home, his family with a better family, and his spouse with a better spouse. Enter him into Paradise and protect him from the punishment of the grave and the punishment of the Fire.

Virtues & Benefits

Dying during Hajj is often considered a sign of a good end (husnul-khatimah). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this comprehensive dua for the deceased, which encompasses seeking forgiveness, mercy, well-being, and protection from the grave and hellfire. By reciting it, we are actively fulfilling our obligation to pray for our fellow Muslims, earning Allah's pleasure and potentially easing the burden of the deceased in the hereafter. Such a passing can be an expiation for sins, as the pilgrims are already in a state of immense devotion and remembrance of Allah.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from 'Awf bin Malik Al-Ashja'i that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) led the funeral prayer, and he would often say: 'Allahumma-ghfir lahu warhamhu wa 'afihi wa'fu 'anhu, wa akrim nuzulahu wa wassi' mudkhalahu, waghsilhu bil-ma'i wath-thalji wal-baradi, wa naqqihi minal-khataaya kama naqqaita ath-thawbal-abyada minad-danasi, wa abdilhu daaran khairan min daarihi, wa ahlan khairan min ahlihi, wa zawjan khairan min zawjihi, wa adkhilhul-jannata, wa a'idhhu min 'adhab-il-qabri wa 'adhab-in-naari.' He said: 'And his soul was eased.' (Sahih Muslim 963)
