O Allah, forgive [Name of the deceased], have mercy on him, grant him well-being, pardon him, honor his reception, make his grave spacious, wash him with water, snow, and hail. Cleanse him from sins as a white garment is cleansed from dirt. Give him a home better than his own home, a family better than his own family, and a spouse better than his own spouse. Enter him into Paradise and protect him from the punishment of the grave and the punishment of the Fire.
Allahumma-ghfir li [Name of the deceased], wa-rhamhu, wa-'afihi, wa-'fu 'anhu, wa-akrim nuzulahu, wa-wassi' madkhalahu, wa-ghsilhu bil-ma'i wath-thalji wal-baradi, wa-nqqihi minal-khataaya kama yunaqqa-th-thawbul-abyadu minad-danasi, wa-abdilhu daaran khayran min daarihi, wa-ahlan khayran min ahlihi, wa-zawjan khayran min zawjihi, wa-adkhilhul-jannata, wa-a'idhhu min 'adhabi-l-qabri wa-'adhabi-n-nar.
When to Read
This profound supplication is for all times after the passing of a Muslim. It is particularly poignant when we reflect on the hardships they might have endured in this life, praying that Allah grants them ease and immense reward in the hereafter. You can recite it during funerals, after burial, on anniversaries of their passing, or simply anytime you remember them and wish to send them a gift of prayer.
How to Read
It's beautiful to recite this dua with sincerity, picturing the deceased and earnestly asking Allah for His mercy. If you know the deceased's name, you can insert it where indicated ([اسم المتوفى] / [Name of the deceased]). While it's commonly recited aloud, a heartfelt, silent recitation is equally potent. Making dua for others is a significant act of worship, and this is a powerful way to honor those who have left us.

Narrated 'Awf bin Malik Al-Ashja'i: I witnessed the funeral prayer of a deceased person. Allah's Messenger ﷺ stood up and I stood up with him, and he said: 'O Allah, forgive him, have mercy upon him, grant him well-being, pardon him, make his reception honorable, widen his grave, wash him with water and snow and hail, and cleanse him from sins as a white garment is cleansed from dirt. Give him a house better than his house, and a family better than his family, and a spouse better than his spouse. Admit him to Paradise and protect him from the punishment of the grave and the punishment of the Fire.' 'Awf bin Malik said: 'Allah's Messenger ﷺ was then silenced for a while and then said: 'And raise his rank.' 'Awf said: 'O Allah's Messenger, what do you mean by 'raise his rank'?' He said: 'When he is forgiven and has mercy upon him, then he is raised higher in Paradise.'
