اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ وَعَافِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنْهُ، وَأَكْرِمْ نُزُلَهُ وَوَسِّعْ مُدْخَلَهُ، وَاغْسِلْهُ بِالْمَاءِ وَالثَّلْجِ وَالْبَرَدِ، وَنَقِّهِ مِنَ الْخَطَايَا كَمَا يُنَقَّى الثَّوْبُ الأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ، وَأَبْدِلْهُ دَارًا خَيْرًا مِنْ دَارِهِ، وَأَهْلًا خَيْرًا مِنْ أَهْلِهِ، وَزَوْجًا خَيْرًا مِنْ زَوْجِهِ، وَأَدْخِلْهُ الْجَنَّةَ، وَأَعِذْهُ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَعَذَابِ النَّارِ.
O Allah, forgive him, have mercy on him, grant him well-being, and pardon him. Make his resting place honorable, and his grave spacious. Cleanse him with water, snow, and hail. Purify him from sins as a white garment is purified from dirt. Replace his home with a better home, his family with a better family, and his spouse with a better spouse. Admit him into Paradise, and protect him from the punishment of the grave and the punishment of the Fire.
Allahumma-ghfir lahu wa-rhamhu wa-'afihi wa-'fu 'anhu, wa-akrim nuzulahu wa-wassi' madkhalahu, wa-ghsilhu bil-ma'i wath-thalji wal-baradi, wa-naqqihi minal-khataaya kama yunaqqa-thawb-ul-abyadu minad-danasi, wa-abdilhu daaran khairan min daarihi, wa-ahlan khairan min ahlihi, wa-zawjan khairan min zawjihi, wa-adkhilhu-l-jannata, wa-a'idhhu min 'adhabi-l-qabri wa-'adhabi-n-naari.
When to Read
This is the standard funeral supplication (Janazah dua) that we recite for any deceased Muslim. How to Read
This dua is traditionally recited during the funeral prayer (Salat al-Janazah) after the second Takbir. However, it is also permissible and highly encouraged for individuals to make this supplication for the deceased at other times, such as when visiting their grave or even when remembering them. The intention is key: sincerely asking Allah for mercy and forgiveness for the departed soul. Raising hands is generally done during personal supplication, but during the congregational Janazah prayer, the hands are typically not raised after the Takbirs, except for the initial Takbir.

Narrated Awf ibn Malik al-Ashja'i: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) led the funeral prayer, and I memorized from his prayer. He said: 'O Allah, forgive him, have mercy on him, grant him well-being, and pardon him. Make his resting place honorable, and his grave spacious. Cleanse him with water, snow, and hail. Purify him from sins as a white garment is purified from dirt. Replace his home with a better home, his family with a better family, and his spouse with a better spouse. Admit him into Paradise, and protect him from the punishment of the grave and the punishment of the Fire.' (Awf ibn Malik said:) And he (the narrator) said: 'And the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) laughed.' So I said: 'What makes you laugh, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'It is like that, and I hope that Allah grants it to him.'
