Business & Work
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1342

Glory be to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we could never have accomplished it by ourselves. And indeed, to our Lord we will return. O Allah, we ask You for righteousness and piety and for deeds that please You in this journey of ours. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and make its distance short for us. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Successor to the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of the journey, from a sorrowful sight, and from bad circumstances in wealth and family.

Subhanalladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinīn. Wa inna ila Rabbina la munqalibūn. Allahumma inna nas'aluka fi safarina hadha al-birra wat-taqwa, wa minal 'amal ma tarda. Allahumma hawwin 'alayna safarana hadha, watwi 'anna bu'dahu. Allahumma Antas-Sahibu fis-safari, wal-khalifatu fil-ahl. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min wa'tha'is-safari, wa ka'abatil-manzari, wa su'il-munqalabi fil-mali wal-ahl.

When to Read

This dua should be recited when embarking on a journey, specifically for business. It's ideal to say it as you begin your travel, whether it's by car, plane, train, or any other mode of transport. It encapsulates the intention of seeking Allah's blessings and protection for the entire duration of the trip, covering both the outward and return journeys.

How to Read

The dua is recited once at the commencement of the journey. It is recommended to recite it with sincerity and a heartfelt reliance on Allah (Tawakkul). Understanding the meaning of the words helps in connecting with Allah more deeply during the recitation. If traveling with others, it can be recited individually or led by one person.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua when traveling, especially for business, brings immense blessings. It invokes Allah's protection against the difficulties and dangers inherent in travel ('wa'tha'is-safar). It also seeks Allah's favor in making the journey smooth and beneficial ('hawwin 'alayna safarana hadha'). Furthermore, it entrusts our families and possessions to Allah's care during our absence ('wal-khalifatu fil-ahl'), which brings peace of mind to the traveler. The supplication is comprehensive, covering physical safety, spiritual well-being, and the success of the endeavor.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) set out on a journey, he would say the takbir three times, then say: 'Subhanalladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinīn. Wa inna ila Rabbina la munqalibūn. Allahumma inna nas'aluka fi safarina hadha al-birra wat-taqwa, wa minal 'amal ma tarda. Allahumma hawwin 'alayna safarana hadha, watwi 'anna bu'dahu. Allahumma Antas-Sahibu fis-safari, wal-khalifatu fil-ahl. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min wa'tha'is-safari, wa ka'abatil-manzari, wa su'il-munqalabi fil-mali wal-ahl.' (Sahih Muslim 1342)
