Business & Work
Sahih HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3841

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلاً مُتَقَبَّلاً

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and deeds that are accepted.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

Recite this dua at any time you are feeling stuck or unclear about a business decision. It's particularly potent when you've exhausted your own efforts and are seeking divine insight. You can recite it before a crucial meeting, while strategizing, or even in a moment of quiet reflection during a challenging day.

How to Read

This dua is best recited with sincerity and full conviction in Allah's ability to provide guidance. Make a firm intention to seek beneficial knowledge related to your problem, strive for lawful and pure earnings in your business, and aim to perform your work with excellence, seeking Allah's acceptance. Raising your hands slightly while reciting can enhance the feeling of supplication.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, addresses three crucial aspects of success: beneficial knowledge (which illuminates the path forward), goodly provision (ensuring ethical and sustainable growth), and accepted deeds (meaning your hard work is acknowledged and rewarded by Allah). By asking for these, you are seeking Allah's help to not only solve the immediate business problem but also to ensure your overall enterprise is blessed and aligned with Islamic principles.

Narrated by Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her): She said, 'O Messenger of Allah, what is the most frequent Du'a you hear from the companions?' He said: 'O Turner of the hearts, make my heart firm on Your religion.' Then Umm Salamah said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is the most frequent Du'a of Yours when you are afflicted with hardship?' He said: 'O Allah, glory be to You, and praise be to You, I testify that there is no god but You, I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance.' And when the Prophet ﷺ intended to perform his Maghrib prayer, he would say: 'O Allah, make it a light, and a guide, and a security, and an 'Imarah (i.e. make it a prayer that is accepted and not rejected).' And when he intended to perform his 'Isha' prayer, he would say: 'O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, and goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.' (This specific part of the hadith, asking for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds, is found in Sunan Ibn Majah 3841 and authenticated as Sahih by various scholars, and also alluded to in the context of seeking good things in Sahih Muslim 735 in a different wording).
