Business & Work
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1775

O Allah, I ask You for its goodness, the goodness of its inhabitants, and the goodness of what it is predisposed to. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil of its inhabitants, and the evil of what it is predisposed to.

Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ahliha wa khayra ma jubilat 'alayhi, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ahliha wa sharri ma jubilat 'alayhi.

When to Read

This dua is traditionally recited when entering a new town or settling in a new place. We can adapt this by reciting it when entering a new business venture or seeking new partners. It's about seeking Allah's protection and blessing over the new environment and the people we will interact with, including potential business associates. Recite it before crucial meetings, when signing contracts, or at the beginning of a new partnership.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a clear intention to seek Allah's guidance and protection in your business dealings. Imagine yourself seeking the best outcome from Allah (SWT), asking for partners who are upright and beneficial, and warding off any potential harm or untrustworthiness. It's important to combine this dua with your own diligent efforts in vetting partners and building a strong ethical foundation for your business.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication, when recited with conviction, implores Allah (SWT) to grant you the 'goodness' of the venture and its people. In the context of business partnerships, this translates to seeking partners who are righteous, honest, and bring benefit to the venture and to you. Conversely, it seeks refuge from the 'evil' that could afflict the partnership, such as deceit, betrayal, or financial ruin. It's a comprehensive request for Allah's blessing and safeguarding over your endeavors.

Source & Authentication

Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when we came to a town, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would teach us to say: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهَا وَخَيْرَ أَهْلِهَا وَخَيْرَ مَا جُبِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا وَشَرِّ أَهْلِهَا وَشَرِّ مَا جُبِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ (Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ahliha wa khayra ma jubilat 'alayhi, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ahliha wa sharri ma jubilat 'alayhi).
