Business & Work
Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3563

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ.

O Allah, suffice me with what You have made lawful, instead of what You have made unlawful, and enrich me with Your bounty, so that I may not need recourse to anyone other than You.

Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak.

When to Read

This powerful dua is best recited after the obligatory prayers, particularly when you are facing financial challenges or working hard in your business. It's a direct plea to Allah (SWT) for lawful provision and independence from need, making it highly relevant during your work day, perhaps before diving into important business decisions or at the end of a long day of work. You can also make it a habit to recite it first thing in the morning to set a tone of reliance on Allah for your daily sustenance.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and full reliance on Allah (SWT). Ensure you are in a state of purity if possible, though the dua itself can be made at any time. Raise your hands slightly in supplication, as is the etiquette of dua, and focus your heart on Allah's power to provide. Remember that this dua is a request for lawful earnings and independence, so it should be coupled with your diligent efforts in your business.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication directly asks Allah (SWT) for two crucial aspects of financial well-being: provision that is lawful ('halal') and independence from relying on others. By seeking halal income, we ensure our blessings are pure and pleasing to Allah. The second part, 'wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak' (and enrich me with Your bounty, so that I may not need recourse to anyone other than You), is a deep expression of tawakkul (reliance) on Allah alone, freeing us from the anxiety of financial dependence on creation. This dua is particularly effective when facing debt, as it aims to create a stream of lawful income sufficient to cover obligations and bring peace of mind.

Source & Authentication

The hadith narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) states that a 'mukatab' (a slave who had a contract to buy his freedom) came to him and said: 'I am unable to pay my contract. So help me.' Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'Shall I not teach you words which the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) taught me? If you say them, and you have the equivalent of a mountain of debt, Allah will pay it off for you.' He said: 'What is it?' Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'Say: O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision that You have made lawful, instead of Your unlawful provision, and suffice me with Your bounty, so that You do not make me need anyone besides You.' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3563). Although the context here is a slave seeking freedom from debt, the wording of the dua is universal and applicable to anyone seeking financial relief and lawful sustenance.
