When to Read

This dua is a beautiful supplication to ask Allah for abundance and barakah (blessing) in the produce and livelihoods of farmers and those involved in agriculture. It can be recited by farmers themselves, or by anyone wishing to invoke blessings upon them and their work. It's particularly relevant when greeting farmers, when seeing their crops, or at the beginning of a planting or harvesting season. You can make this a regular part of your supplications, especially after Salah, or during times of need for sustenance.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a hopeful heart, focusing on the meaning of asking Allah for His blessings. It's best to raise your hands in supplication as was the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Direct your intention towards seeking goodness and prosperity for the land and its cultivators. You can also add to this by making your own personal dua in your own words, asking Allah to grant favorable weather, protect crops from pests and diseases, and ensure a bountiful harvest. Remember, the sincerity of the heart is paramount.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a profound request for divine favor upon the agricultural sector. When we ask Allah to bless their measures, capacities, and food, we are essentially asking for sufficiency, quality, and abundance in the fruits of their labor. This reflects the Islamic principle of seeking sustenance through lawful means (kasb halaal) and acknowledging that all blessings ultimately come from Allah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this specific dua, showing the importance he placed on supporting those who provide food for the community. Invoking this dua helps foster a sense of gratitude for the blessings we receive and encourages empathy towards those who toil to produce our food.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Anas that when Allah's Messenger ﷺ passed by some of the people of 'Umm Darr, they were in the midst of planting and their hands were in the earth. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'O Allah, bless their measures, bless their capacities, and bless their food.' They replied: 'O Allah's Messenger, and our fields?' He said: 'Allah has blessed your measures, and your capacities, and your food.' Then he came to a place where some people were the other way around, and he said: 'What are these people doing?' They said: 'They are preparing their fields.' He said: 'Allah has blessed their measures, and their capacities, and their food.' Narrated by Muslim.
