Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, is a comprehensive request for sustenance that is pure and lawful. By asking Allah to suffice us with His halal provisions, we insulate ourselves from the temptations of unlawful earnings which can bring spiritual and worldly harm. The second part, asking to be enriched by His grace, fosters a deep sense of reliance on the Creator, making us less dependent on others and more content with His decree. This mindset is crucial for ethical business practices and long-term success, as it attracts barakah (blessings) and contentment.

Narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): A man came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have a lot of sins." He said: "Seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him." The man said: "It is too much for me." He said: "Say: 'O Allah, forgive me, my sins, my desires, and the punishment of the grave.'" He said: "It is too much for me." He said: "Say: 'O Allah, grant me a clear, sound reason for everything.'" The man said: "It is too much for me." He said: "Say: 'O Allah, provide for me by Your lawful sustenance instead of Your unlawful sustenance, and make me independent of everyone besides You.'" When the man came and supplicated with these words, he returned to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, it has removed all the sins from me."
