Source & Authentication

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was in the company of a man from the Bedouins. When the Bedouin addressed him, the Prophet ﷺ said to his companions: 'Do you hear what this man is saying?' They said: 'We do not think he is saying anything bad.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'By Allah, I hear him slandering me.' Then the man approached him and said something that annoyed the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ stood up and said: 'Do you hear?' They said: 'No.' He said: 'By Allah, I hear him slandering me, and I am patient.' Then he said: 'O Allah, suffice me against him with whatever You wish.' So the people got up and said to the Bedouin: 'Get away from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' Then the man departed. It was later narrated that he was killed by a scorpion bite. Sahih Muslim 3017.
