اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need to ask anyone other than You.
Allahumma ikfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka
When to Read
This is a powerful dua to recite when you feel overwhelmed by your responsibilities, whether at work or home. It's especially beneficial when starting your day, before a challenging meeting or task, or during moments when you feel the demands of your livelihood are pulling you away from your family obligations. Making it a habit to recite this upon waking or after Fajr prayer can set a tone of reliance on Allah for guidance and provision throughout the day.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, focusing on the meaning of each word. Understand that true sufficiency and wealth come from Allah alone. Raise your hands in supplication as you would for other duas, facing the Qiblah if possible. Reflect on your needs and ask Allah to bless your efforts in earning a lawful living and to grant you the contentment that frees you from seeking help from others. It's also a good practice to follow this with other duas for barakah (blessing) in your sustenance and for your family.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is comprehensive in seeking Allah's provision and independence. By asking for lawful sustenance, you are seeking Allah's pleasure and avoiding the potential haram that can arise from desperate or unethical means of earning. Asking to be enriched by Allah's grace means seeking contentment and freedom from needing to depend on creation, which is a state of true spiritual wealth. This dual focus helps in finding balance, as it reminds you that your ultimate reliance is on Allah, who will provide in ways that are best for both your worldly and spiritual well-being, thereby assisting you in managing your obligations effectively without undue stress.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that a servant who owed money came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I am unable to pay my debts, so help me.' He said: 'Shall I not teach you some words that if you say them, Allah will pay your debt even if it were as large as Mount Sabyr, and they will suffice you in your worldly needs?' He said: 'Yes, teach me.' He (the Prophet) said: 'Say: O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need to ask anyone other than You.'
