اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا
O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure sustenance, and acceptable deeds.
Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan
When to Read
This powerful supplication is excellent to recite after the obligatory prayers (Fardh salah), especially when you are actively seeking employment or looking to start a new business venture. It’s also beneficial to make this dua consistently each morning after Fajr, as this is a blessed time for seeking provision from Allah. Think of it as setting the intention and seeking divine blessing for your day's work and efforts.
How to Read
Begin by raising your hands to your chest, palms facing upwards. Face the Qiblah if possible. Start with Bismillah (In the name of Allah) and praise Allah (Alhamdulillah) and send blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Recite the dua with sincerity and conviction, truly believing that Allah is the source of all provision. Reflect on the meaning of each word: 'beneficial knowledge' to guide your decisions, 'pure sustenance' that is lawful and brings barakah (blessing), and 'acceptable deeds' so your efforts are recognized by Him. Conclude by sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ again and making the sign of taslim (saying 'Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah') to your right and then your left.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates three vital requests that contribute to a fulfilling life in this world and the hereafter. Seeking 'beneficial knowledge' (ilm nafi') allows us to understand our deen better, make sound decisions in our careers, and avoid unlawful practices. Asking for 'pure sustenance' (rizqan tayyiban) ensures that our income is lawful (halal) and blessed by Allah, which is essential for the acceptance of our worship and the well-being of our families. Requesting 'acceptable deeds' ('amalan mutaqabbalan) means our efforts, including our work, are done sincerely for Allah's sake and are accepted by Him. This comprehensive request is a foundation for seeking Allah's help in all aspects of life, including earning a living.
