اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is excellent to recite when facing a difficult situation at work, especially when you're feeling overwhelmed by a conflict. It’s particularly beneficial to say this in the morning before starting your workday, or right before engaging in a challenging discussion or task where you need divine intervention for clarity, fairness, and a positive outcome. When conflicts arise, our minds can become clouded. Asking for beneficial knowledge helps us understand the situation better, asking for goodly provision reminds us that Allah is our ultimate provider and can guide us to fair solutions, and asking for acceptable deeds encourages us to act justly and with good intention, which is crucial for resolving disputes.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, focusing on your intention to seek Allah's help. Ensure your heart is present and your mind is clear. Imagine Allah's boundless wisdom and mercy enveloping the situation. Raising your hands slightly while making dua can be a beautiful way to express your supplication. It is best to be in a state of purity if possible, though it is not a strict condition for this specific supplication.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) when she asked him what to say when fearing oppression, is incredibly powerful. By asking for: 1. **Beneficial Knowledge ('Ilman Naafi'an):** This helps in understanding the root causes of the conflict, discerning truth from falsehood, and finding wise solutions. Knowledge that benefits is knowledge that leads to good actions and spiritual growth. 2. **Goodly Provision (Rizqan Tayyiban):** This encompasses not just material sustenance but also the means and opportunities for success, peace, and well-being. It prompts us to trust Allah's plan for a fair resolution. 3. **Acceptable Deeds ('Amalan Mutaqabbalan):** This is the ultimate goal – to act in a way that is pleasing to Allah. In a conflict, this means striving for justice, patience, and forgiveness, and ensuring our actions contribute to a positive and righteous outcome, rather than worsening the situation. This dua equips us to navigate workplace challenges with integrity and faith.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) when she asked him what she should say if she encountered an oppressive ruler. He advised her to seek refuge in Allah with the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created. He then taught her: "O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds." (Sahih Muslim 2708). The dua provided in the main entry is a different but equally comprehensive supplication for various aspects of life, including navigating difficulties with wisdom and seeking Allah's favor in our work.
