Dua for Allah's Aid in Recovering Stolen Business Property

Business & Work
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3600

O Allah, the Restorer of lost things, the Guide of the astray, restore to me my lost property by Your power and Your authority, for it is from Your giving and Your bounty.

Allahumma raddal-ḍāllata, wa hādiyal-ḍāllata, far-dudd 'alayya ḍāllatī bi-qudratika wa sulṭānika, fa innahā min 'aṭā'ika wa faḍlik

When to Read

This dua is specifically recommended for when a Muslim loses something valuable, including business property like equipment, inventory, or funds. It should be recited with sincere conviction, especially after taking all practical steps to search for the lost item and report the theft.

How to Read

Recite this dua with a clear intention and a hopeful heart, seeking Allah's help directly. It's best to recite it after the obligatory prayers (Salah) or during times when dua is more readily accepted, such as the last third of the night or between the Adhan and Iqamah. Raise your hands as a sign of supplication. You can also incorporate other general duas for protection, provision, and justice.

Virtues & Benefits

This specific dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, acknowledges Allah as the ultimate restorer and guide. By reciting it, a Muslim affirms their reliance on Allah (Tawakkul) for recovery. While there isn't a specific reward mentioned for this exact dua, the general principle is that sincere supplication to Allah for legitimate needs is answered, either by granting the request, averting a greater harm, or storing up reward for the Hereafter. The Prophet ﷺ said: "There is no Muslim who calls upon Allah with a supplication in which there is no cutting of ties or injustice, but that Allah will give him one of three things: He will hasten the response to his supplication, He will store it up for him in the Hereafter, or He will divert an evil similar to it from him." (Musnad Ahmad 11133, graded Sahih by many scholars, including Al-Albani)

Yahya related to me from Malik, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from his father, that 'Umar ibn al-Khattab said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'When any of you loses something, or a servant is lost, let him say: Allahumma raddal-ḍāllata, wa hādiyal-ḍāllata, fa-r-dud 'alayya ḍāllatī bi-qudratika wa sulṭānik, fa-innahā min 'aṭā'ika wa faḍlik.'" (Yahya said, Malik said, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from his father, that 'Umar ibn al-Khattab said...). This narration is found in Sunan Ibn Majah with the wording: 'Umar ibn al-Khattab said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Allahumma raddal-ḍāllata, wa hādiyal-ḍāllata, fa-r-dud 'alayya ḍāllatī bi-qudratika wa sulṭānik, fa-innahā min 'aṭā'ika wa faḍlik.'
