There is no god but You; glory be to You! Indeed, I have been among the wrongdoers.
La ilaha illa anta subhanaka, inni kuntu minaz-zalimin
When to Read
This powerful dua is especially potent when you find yourself in deep distress, facing seemingly insurmountable challenges, or feeling overwhelmed by difficulties. While it originated from Prophet Yunus's desperate situation, its efficacy extends to any time we feel lost, weak, or have erred. Reciting it after obligatory prayers can be a way to connect with this supplication, seeking Allah's immediate help in times of need, or as a general practice of remembrance and seeking forgiveness.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere repentance, acknowledging your own shortcomings and Allah's absolute power and mercy. Understand the profound humility within these words โ a recognition of Allah's uniqueness and a confession of one's own wrongdoing. Imagine yourself in a state of complete reliance on Allah, just as Prophet Yunus was in the belly of the whale, with no one else to turn to. Utter it with conviction, believing in its power to relieve distress and grant forgiveness.
Virtues & Benefits
The Quran itself tells us the immense benefit of this dua: 'And We rescued him from distress. And thus do We rescue the believers.' (Quran 21:88). This verse clearly states that Allah responds to this specific supplication and rescues those who turn to Him in times of trouble. It is a direct pathway to seeking Allah's relief and a powerful tool for seeking forgiveness for our sins, recognizing our own faults, and acknowledging our dependence on the Creator. The Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ also mentioned that the dua made by Dhu'n-Nun (Prophet Yunus) was '...in the darkness of the belly of the whale... and no one in the world has ever said it in a matter like this except that Allah would answer him.' (Tirmidhi 3505, Hasan).
