Prophetic Dua for Protection from Evil Companionship After Prayer

After Prayer
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 984

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This powerful supplication is recommended to be recited immediately after the obligatory prayers (fardh salah), before engaging in any other activity. It's a beautiful way to conclude your prayer, asking Allah for blessings in key aspects of your life.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely with concentration (khushu'). It is an extension of your prayer, so maintain the same reverence. Some scholars mention raising your hands slightly as a sign of seeking from Allah, though this is not explicitly stated in the hadith for this specific dua. Focus on the meaning of each word as you utter it.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a request for the best of this world and the Hereafter. Beneficial knowledge (ilm nafi') helps us navigate life correctly and gain Allah's pleasure. Goodly provision (rizqan tayyiban) encompasses not just wealth, but all lawful and pure sustenance. Acceptable deeds ('amalan mutaqabbalan) are those that are performed sincerely for Allah and in accordanceance with His commands, leading to reward. While this dua doesn't directly mention protection from evil companions, the request for beneficial knowledge and acceptable deeds implicitly guides us away from negative influences, as knowledge shows us what is harmful and acceptable deeds are those that please Allah, not those that lead to His displeasure.
