Dua for Inner Peace and Protection from Inner Turmoil (After Prayer)

After Prayer
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6369

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from disability and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overwhelming of debt and the subjugation of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.

When to Read

This powerful dua is particularly potent when recited immediately after completing the obligatory prayers (Fard). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to make dua after Salah, as it is a time when our supplications are more likely to be accepted. Imagine finishing your prayer, feeling that spiritual connection, and then turning to Allah with these earnest requests for protection against internal struggles and external pressures.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a focused heart. Raise your hands in supplication as you normally would after prayer, or place your right hand on your chest over your heart, as a gesture of seeking solace and peace from within. Contemplate the meaning of each phrase, truly feeling the need for Allah's protection from these afflictions.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua offers comprehensive protection against common sources of inner turmoil and hardship. By seeking refuge in Allah from anxiety (hamm) and sorrow (hazan), we ask for a calm and content heart. Protection from disability ('ajz) and laziness (kasal) helps us maintain our ability to act and fulfill our responsibilities. Seeking refuge from cowardice (jubn) and stinginess (bukhl) strengthens our character and enables us to be brave and generous. Finally, asking for protection from the burden of debt (ghalabatid-dayn) and the oppression of others (qahrir-rijal) safeguards us from significant external stresses that can deeply disturb our peace.
