اللَّهُمَّ أَعِنِّي عَلَى ذِكْرِكَ، وَشُكْرِكَ، وَحُسْنِ عِبَادَتِكَ
O Allah, help me to remember You, to thank You, and to worship You in the best way.
Allahumma a'inni 'ala dhikrika, wa shukrika, wa husni 'ibadatika
When to Read
This is a comprehensive dua the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to recite after every prayer, before speaking any words. It encompasses a profound request for assistance in fulfilling our obligations to Allah, which naturally includes following His commands and the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ.
How to Read
Recite this dua quietly after completing the prescribed obligatory prayer (fard). It's recommended to pause for a moment after your final 'Tasleem' (saying 'As-salamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah' to your right and then your left) before beginning this dua. Focus on the meaning and internalize your request to Allah.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a direct plea for divine assistance in the core aspects of our faith: remembering Allah (dhikr), being grateful to Him (shukr), and worshipping Him excellently ('husni 'ibadah). By asking for help in these, we are implicitly asking for the ability to align our actions, thoughts, and intentions with what pleases Allah, which is the essence of following the Sunnah. The excellence in worship includes performing it according to the Prophet's ﷺ teachings, ensuring our prayers, supplications, and all acts of devotion are rooted in authenticity. As our beloved Prophet ﷺ said, 'Whoever follows my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, hold fast to it. Beware of newly invented matters, for every newly invented matter is an innovation (bid'ah), and every innovation is misguidance.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 4607, Sahih)
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When you finish praying (fard), say: Allahumma a'inni 'ala dhikrika, wa shukrika, wa husni 'ibadatika.' (O Allah, help me to remember You, to thank You, and to worship You in the best way). Narrated Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to instruct his companions to say this after every prayer. (Sunan Abi Dawud 1522)
