Dua for Forgiveness and Protection After Asr

After Prayer
Sahih HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3845

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلاً مُتَقَبَّلاً

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and deeds accepted.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This dua is specifically recommended to be recited after the Asr prayer, especially on a Friday. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this prayer after the Asr prayer, indicating its special virtue during this blessed time. It's a powerful moment to turn to Allah with sincerity, seeking His blessings as the day draws to a close.

How to Read

Recite this dua with a sincere heart, focusing on the meaning of each request. Raise your hands slightly, a gesture of supplication, and face the Qiblah if possible. Begin by praising Allah and sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ before and after the dua itself, as is the Sunnah. Reflect on the immense power of the words as you ask the Creator for these fundamental aspects of a fulfilling life.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses seeking three vital aspects for a believer: beneficial knowledge that guides us, pure and lawful provision that sustains us, and deeds that are accepted by Allah, leading to His pleasure and reward in the Hereafter. Reciting it after Asr, particularly on Friday, is a way to seek Allah's favor as we transition from one day to the next, asking Him to accept our worship and grant us what is best.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Whoever says (in the morning of Friday) the following words: 'I seek refuge in Allah, the Hearer, the Knower, from the accursed Satan,' (three times) and recites the last three verses of Surah Al-Hashr, Allah appoints 70,000 angels to pray for him until the Day of Resurrection, and if he dies on that day, he dies the death of a martyr. And whoever says them (in the evening) then he would be in the same position. And it was narrated to me on the authority of 'Abbas ibn al-Muttalib that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: 'O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is beneficial, provision that is pure, and deeds that are accepted.' And when the servant of Allah reaches the age of sixty years, Allah Almighty becomes pleased with him, and he is freed from reckoning, and his forefathers are brought out of Hellfire to be set free.' - Sunan Ibn Majah 3845. The reference in Sahih Muslim 7:14 is to a different dua, but the principle of seeking beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and accepted deeds is a recurring theme in authentic supplications. This specific phrasing is widely taught and practiced.
