All praise is due to Allah, [praising Him] with much praise, blessed and abundant praise, [praise] that is never insufficient, never to be left, and without which we cannot dispense, our Lord.
Al-hamdulillah hamdan katheeran tayyiban mubarakan feehi, ghaira makfiyyin wa laa muda''in wa laa mustaghnan 'anhu Rabbuna.
When to Read
This beautiful dua is recited immediately after finishing a meal. It's a moment to pause and thank Allah for the sustenance He has provided, seeking His continued protection and blessings. Imagine finishing your meal, perhaps with family or alone, and taking those few extra seconds to turn your heart and tongue towards Allah.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and presence of mind. It's not just about moving your lips; it's about acknowledging Allah's immense grace in providing nourishment and seeking His favor for continued well-being. Try to feel the gratitude as you utter the words. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that the one who eats is grateful and the one who refrains from eating is patient; both are praiseworthy. This dua embodies that gratitude.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication is a powerful act of gratitude that draws Allah's pleasure and protection. When we thank Allah for His blessings, He increases them. This specific dua acknowledges the comprehensive nature of His provision and our constant need for Him. By reciting it, we are essentially seeking divine favor to ward off any potential harm or sickness that might arise from the food or the act of eating itself, and to receive ongoing blessings from Allah. The Prophet ﷺ mentioned that Allah is pleased with His servant who eats something and thanks Him for it, or drinks something and thanks Him for it (Sahih Muslim 2232). This dua is a perfect expression of that gratitude.

Narrated Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would say, when he had finished his food: 'Al-hamdulillah hamdan katheeran tayyiban mubarakan feehi, ghaira makfiyyin wa laa muda''in wa laa mustaghnan 'anhu Rabbuna.' (All praise is due to Allah, [praising Him] with much praise, blessed and abundant praise, [praise] that is never insufficient, never to be left, and without which we cannot dispense, our Lord).
