الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا وَجَعَلَنَا مُسْلِمِينَ
All praise is due to Allah Who fed us and gave us drink, and made us Muslims.
Alhamdulillah allathi at'amana wa saqana wa ja'alana Muslimeen
When to Read
This beautiful dua is recited immediately after finishing a meal, expressing gratitude to Allah for the sustenance provided. While it primarily focuses on thanking Allah for food and drink, the act of remembering Allah after a meal is a general practice of devotion. Cultivating this habit of remembrance and gratitude can bring overall peace and contentment, which indirectly contributes to a more tranquil state before sleep, potentially warding off disturbing thoughts and dreams.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a heart full of gratitude after you finish eating. Focus on the meaning of each word, recognizing Allah's blessings upon you. It’s a simple yet profound expression of thankfulness that can become a comforting ritual after every meal.
Virtues & Benefits
The primary benefit of this dua is the immense reward of thanking Allah, Who says in the Quran: 'And [mention] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]'...' (Surah Ibrahim 14:7). Beyond gratitude, establishing a habit of dhikr (remembrance of Allah) after meals fosters a connection with Him throughout the day. This constant remembrance can bring peace to the heart, and a peaceful heart is less susceptible to anxieties and negative thoughts that might manifest as bad dreams.

Narrated by Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, when a dining cloth was raised from him, would say: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ حَمْدًا كَثِيرًا طَيِّبًا مُبَارَكًا فِيهِ غَيْرَ مَكْفِيٍّ وَلَا مُوَدَّعٍ وَلَا مُسْتَغْنَى عَنْهُ رَبَّنَا. (All praise is due to Allah, abundant, good, and blessed praise, not [to be] farewelled or abandoned, nor [from which] one can be independent, our Lord.) He also said: When a believer eats food and says: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا وَجَعَلَنَا مُسْلِمِينَ (All praise is due to Allah Who fed us and gave us drink, and made us Muslims), his past sins are forgiven. (Sunan Abi Dawud 3850. The scholar Al-Albani graded this hadith as Hasan).
