Dua After Eating: Seeking Allah's Blessing on the Sustenance

After Eating
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 5443

All praise is due to Allah, abundant, pure, and blessed praise, praise that is not insufficient, nor is it to be left behind, nor is one independent of it, our Lord.

*Al-hamdu lillahi hamdan kathiran tayyiban mubarakan feehi, ghayra makfiyyin wa la mawadda'in wa la mustaghnan 'anhu Rabbuna.*

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recited immediately after finishing a meal, expressing gratitude for the food and asking Allah to bless what has been consumed and to continue providing sustenance.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a heart full of gratitude after you have finished eating. It's a moment to reflect on Allah's favors and acknowledge His continuous provision. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this supplication, so reciting it with the intention of following his Sunnah is also a significant aspect.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates profound gratitude and reliance on Allah. By praising Allah in this manner, we acknowledge that all sustenance comes from Him and that we are always in need of His blessings. It reminds us that even after receiving a meal, we should continue to seek Allah's favor for its nourishment and for future provisions. The phrasing 'ghayra makfiyyin wa la mawadda'in wa la mustaghnan 'anhu Rabbuna' is particularly powerful, showing that Allah's provision is never enough to make us self-sufficient, and we are always dependent on Him.
