الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ حَمْدًا كَثِيرًا طَيِّبًا مُبَارَكًا فِيهِ، غَيْرَ مَكْفِيٍّ وَلا مُوَدَّعٍ وَلا مُسْتَغْنًى عَنْهُ رَبُّنَا.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Busr: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in the mosque and a man came in and prayed. When he finished, he said: 'O Allah, forgive me my sins.' The Prophet ﷺ said to him: 'O Allah, forgive him, O Allah, be merciful to him.' The Prophet ﷺ then said: 'This man has asked Allah for forgiveness and His mercy, but this world is not for him and for his sins. If he lives, his sins will increase and his misdeeds will increase. A person may ask Allah for something, but Allah may not give it to him, except when He wishes to grant him more than that in the hereafter, or He may ward off from him evil equal to that. Allah does not increase a servant for his forgiveness except in honor.' Then the Prophet ﷺ said: 'What is said by the one who eats and thanks Allah? Or what is said by the one who fasts and is patient?' Abu Bakr said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is said by the one who eats and thanks Allah?' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'O Allah, praise be to You, You have fed me and given me to drink and made me sufficient and given me plenty. So praise be to You for what You have given.' 'Abdullah bin Busr said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is said by the one who fasts and is patient?' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'O Allah, my fasting is by Your sustenance, and my patience is by Your help, so forgive me my sins.' Abu Bakr said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the one who has tried to do good and has tried to do evil?' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'This is a servant who has tried to do good and has tried to do evil, and his hope is in Allah to forgive him.'
