اللَّهُمَّ أَجِرْنِي مِنْ حَرِّ جَهَنَّمَ

O Allah, save me from the heat of Hellfire.

Allahumma ajirni min harr Jahannam

When to Read

This simple yet profound dua is particularly relevant during periods of extreme heat. When the sun beats down intensely, and the heat feels unbearable, it serves as a powerful reminder of Allah's creation and His warnings. Reciting this when you feel the heat most acutely, or even as a daily remembrance during hot weather, connects the physical discomfort to a spiritual lesson. It's a way to seek Allah's protection not just from the heat of this world, but more importantly, from the fire of the hereafter.

How to Read

This dua is meant to be recited with sincerity and reflection. As you feel the heat, pause for a moment. Picture the intensity of the sun, and then reflect on the description of Jahannam (Hellfire) in the Quran and Sunnah. Recite the dua, asking Allah with earnestness for His mercy and protection. It's a personal supplication, so it can be recited quietly, either alone or in the company of others who might benefit from the reminder.

Virtues & Benefits

The primary benefit of this dua is seeking Allah's protection from the Hellfire, a mercy far greater than any worldly comfort. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that the heat of this world is a seventy-part portion of the heat of Jahannam (Sahih al-Bukhari 3265). By reciting this dua, we acknowledge this connection and actively seek refuge. It also serves as a spiritual exercise, encouraging us to remember the Akhirah (Hereafter) and the consequences of our actions, potentially motivating us to live a more God-conscious life. It turns a moment of physical discomfort into an opportunity for spiritual growth and seeking divine protection.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'The fire (Hell) complained to its Lord saying: 'O Lord, my parts are consuming each other!' So it was allowed two breaths: one breath in winter and one breath in summer. So the severe heat you feel (in summer) is from the intense heat of Hell, and the severe cold you feel (in winter) is from the intense cold of Hell.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 3265 and Sahih Muslim 284). Another narration from Sunan Abi Dawud: 'When it is hot, say: O Allah, save me from the Fire.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 5073)
