Seeking Protection from Wind and Storms

Weather & Nature
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 899

O Allah, I ask You for its good, and the good of what is in it, and the good of what it has been sent with. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, and the evil of what is in it, and the evil of what it has been sent with.

Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ma fiha wa khayra ma ursilat bihi. Wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma fiha wa sharri ma ursilat bihi.

When to Read

This dua is perfect for when you witness a strong wind, dust storm, or sandstorm. It's a way to acknowledge Allah's power over the elements and seek His protection from any harm that might be associated with such weather events. You can recite it as the storm begins or when you hear it approaching.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely, focusing on the meaning and trusting in Allah's protection. It's best recited when the wind or storm is present. You can say it quietly to yourself or with others who are with you. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to seek refuge in Allah and ask for His blessings during times of natural phenomena, so approaching it with humility and awareness of His might is key.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication embodies our reliance on Allah (Tawakkul) during challenging circumstances. It allows us to channel our natural fear or discomfort during a storm into a direct connection with our Creator. By asking for the good and seeking refuge from the evil, we acknowledge that everything comes from Allah and that He alone can protect us. It’s a reminder that even seemingly destructive forces are under His command, and He can turn them into good or shield us from their harm.

Source & Authentication

Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When the wind blew strongly, the Prophet (ﷺ) would say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ma fiha wa khayra ma ursilat bihi. Wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma fiha wa sharri ma ursilat bihi.' (O Allah, I ask You for its good, and the good of what is in it, and the good of what it has been sent with. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, and the evil of what is in it, and the evil of what it has been sent with.)
