Weather & Nature
Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3451

Allah is the Greatest. O Allah, let the new moon rise upon us with security and faith, with safety and Islam, and with guidance to what You love and approve. My Lord and your Lord is Allah.

Allahu Akbar. Allahumma ahillahu 'alayna bil-amni wal-imani, was-salamati wal-islami, wat-tawfiqi lima tuhibbu wa tarda. Rabbi wa rabbukal-lah.

When to Read

This dua is recited upon sighting the new moon, particularly at the beginning of the Islamic month. It's a beautiful practice that marks the transition into a new month with remembrance of Allah and a plea for His blessings.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity as you behold the crescent moon. It's a moment to pause from worldly affairs and connect with your Creator, acknowledging His might and asking for His grace for the coming month. Facing the Qiblah is not a requirement for this dua, but a humble and reflective posture is recommended.

Virtues & Benefits

Sighting the new moon is a recurring event that marks the passage of time and the cycles of Islamic months, including significant periods like Ramadan and Shawwal. This dua encapsulates a comprehensive request for well-being, spiritual strength, and divine guidance for the entire month. It turns a simple observation of nature into an act of worship and a moment for profound supplication.

Source & Authentication

When the Prophet ﷺ saw the new moon, he would say: 'Allahu Akbar. Allahumma ahillahu 'alayna bil-amni wal-imani, was-salamati wal-islami, wat-tawfiqi lima tuhibbu wa tarda. Rabbi wa rabbukal-lah.' (Allah is the Greatest. O Allah, let the new moon rise upon us with security and faith, with safety and Islam, and with guidance to what You love and approve. My Lord and your Lord is Allah.) - Reported by At-Tirmidhi, who said it is Hasan Gharib. He also mentioned a similar narration from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them).
