سُبْحَانَ مَنْ يُسَبِّحُ الرَّعْدُ بِحَمْدِهِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ مِنْ خِيفَتِهِ
Glory be to Him Whom the thunder glorifies by praising Him, and the angels too out of His awe.
Subhana man yusabbihur-ra'du bihamdihi wal-mala'ikatu min khifatihi
When to Read
This dua is recited when one hears thunder, sees lightning, or experiences a hailstorm. It's a moment to pause and remember Allah's power over the natural world, recognizing that even the most intense weather phenomena are signs of His creation and His command.
How to Read
Recite this dua when you witness thunder, lightning, or a hailstorm. It is recommended to raise your voice slightly when hearing thunder, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did. Use this as an opportunity to reflect on the immense power of Allah and your own dependence on Him.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua connects us to the praise of creation itself. The thunder glorifies Allah, and the angels do so out of awe. By reciting this, we join in that remembrance, acknowledging Allah's magnificence and sovereignty over all that exists. It also serves as a reminder that what might seem frightening is, in fact, part of Allah's grand design and a means of His mercy or a warning.
Source & Authentication
Narrated by Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ heard thunder, he would abandon hadith talk and recite: 'Subhana man yusabbihur-ra'du bihamdihi wal-mala'ikatu min khifatihi' (Glory be to Him Whom the thunder glorifies by praising Him, and the angels too out of His awe). (Narrated by Imam Malik in Al-Muwatta, Book 18, Hadith 33). This hadith, while considered Hasan due to its chain of narrators, highlights the Prophet's ﷺ immediate reaction to natural signs of Allah's power.
