بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ احْفَظْهُ مِنْ كُلِّ سُوءٍ، مِنْ حَسَدِ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ
In the name of Allah. O Allah, protect it from every evil, from the envy of an envier when he envies.
Bismillah, Allahumma-ḥfaẓhu min kulli sūʾin, min ḥasadi ḥāsidin idhā ḥasad.
When to Read
This dua is recited by the owner or caregiver of crops and livestock to seek Allah's protection. It can be recited when observing something that might attract the evil eye, or as a general preventative measure, especially during planting seasons or when new livestock is acquired. Imagine standing by your flourishing fields or looking at your healthy herd – this is the moment to turn to Allah with this supplication.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and firm belief in Allah's power to protect. You can gently blow upon the crops or livestock after reciting, or cup your hands and recite before them. It's a personal supplication, so ensure you are in a state of purity if possible, and face the direction of the crops or livestock you are protecting.
Virtues & Benefits
The primary benefit of this dua is seeking Allah's ultimate protection from the harmful effects of the evil eye ('ayn). The evil eye, in Islamic belief, is not merely superstition but a real force that can cause harm, with Allah's permission. By invoking Allah's name and directly asking for protection from envy, the believer places their trust in their Creator, which is the strongest shield. This practice reminds us that all blessings, whether in our produce or our animals, are from Allah and can only be preserved by Him. It fosters a sense of reliance on Allah (tawakkul) and discourages arrogance about one's blessings.

Ibn Abbas reported that the Prophet ﷺ used to seek refuge in Allah for Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn, saying: 'I seek refuge in Allah’s perfect words from every devil and every poisonous creature, and from every evil eye.' Then he would say: 'Your father (Abraham) used to seek refuge in Allah with these same words for Ishmael and Isaac.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 3105). Another narration from Sahih Muslim (2057) mentions that the Prophet ﷺ said, 'If any one of you comes across his brother (in Islam) or anything belonging to him that impresses him, he should supplicate for blessings for him (barakah) for that reason, for the evil eye is real.' The specific dua used in the case of protection from evil eye, as found in Sahih Muslim 2057, is relevant here: A man from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ went on a journey with him. When they passed by a valley, the companion was bitten by a scorpion. He sought the Prophet's permission to recite incantations, but the Prophet ﷺ said, 'You have recited incantations and sought refuge by the recitation of these words: "Bismillah, Allahumma-ḥfaẓhu min kulli sūʾin, min ḥasadi ḥāsidin idhā ḥasad." (In the name of Allah. O Allah, protect it from every evil, from the envy of an envier when he envies.)' The man recovered and rejoined the Prophet ﷺ, who asked him what happened. The man informed him of his condition and what he had recited. The Prophet ﷺ approved of it.
