Weather & Nature
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 899

O Allah, I ask You for the good of it (the wind/fire) and the good of what is in it, and the good of what it has been sent with. And I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what is in it, and the evil of what it has been sent with.

Allahumma inni as'aluka khairaha wa khaira ma fiha wa khaira ma ursilat bihi. Wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma fiha wa sharri ma ursilat bihi.

When to Read

This dua is profoundly relevant during times of wildfire threat or whenever strong, potentially destructive winds are present. Recite it when you hear about wildfires in your vicinity, see smoke, or experience unusually strong winds that could escalate into fires. It is a proactive measure to invoke Allah's protection for yourself, your family, and your community.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and conviction, raising your hands if appropriate (as is the Sunnah for general supplication). Understand the meaning of the words and truly feel your reliance on Allah (Tawakkul). It can be recited individually or collectively by communities facing such threats.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua encompasses seeking the good and protection from the evil of natural phenomena. By asking Allah for the best aspects of the wind (which can fuel fires) and seeking refuge from its destructive potential, we are actively engaging in seeking His safeguard. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this to seek protection from the evil of strong winds, which can be harbingers of destruction like wildfires. It reinforces our belief that only Allah has the power to avert harm and bring benefit.

Source & Authentication

‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When the wind blew strongly, the Prophet (ﷺ) would say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka khairaha wa khaira ma fiha wa khaira ma ursilat bihi. Wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma fiha wa sharri ma ursilat bihi.' (O Allah, I ask You for the good of it and the good of what is in it, and the good of what it has been sent with. And I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what is in it, and the evil of what it has been sent with.) And when the sky was overcast with clouds, he would become very anxious and would go forward and backward. And then the rain would start to fall. 'Aishah said: He would feel restless and would change his posture until the rain fell. The people asked him: 'People notice that when the sky is overcast with clouds, you become restless and go forward and backward, but when it rains, you seem relieved.' He said: 'I am afraid that it might be a punishment that is sent down to my Ummah.'
