اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This dua is recited during times of severe drought when the land is parched and people are suffering from lack of water. It is a direct supplication to Allah for relief and sustenance. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would often repeat his supplications three times, and this dua reflects that Sunnah.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, raising your hands as the Prophet ﷺ did when making dua for rain. It is best recited in congregation with others who are also seeking Allah's mercy, or individually when feeling the urgency of the situation. Ensure you have performed Wudu (ablution) if possible, and face the Qiblah (direction of prayer).
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking Allah's help directly during times of hardship is a sign of Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and reliance (Tawakkul). Allah states in the Quran, 'And your Lord says: 'Call to Me; I will answer your (Prayer)' (Ghafir 40:60). This dua embodies that command, seeking sustenance and relief from the Creator. By asking for rain, we are asking for life itself, as Allah says, 'And We send down from the sky water in measure, and We give it rest in the land, and indeed, We are able to take it away' (Al-Mu'minun 23:18).

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "While the Prophet ﷺ was delivering the Friday sermon on a pulpit, a man entered (the mosque) from the gate of the mosque and stood up. The Prophet ﷺ asked him, 'O such-and-such, do you know why you have come?' The man replied, 'I have come because of the severe drought and the destruction of our sustenance.' The Prophet ﷺ then raised his hands and said, 'O Allah, grant us rain, grant us rain, grant us rain.'" Sahih al-Bukhari 1011.
